Zoe Rose (b. 1996) is a self taught, contemporary painter working primarily in oil whose practice explores the human figure and imagined landscapes as distinct yet related realms. Through a surreal, intuitive approach, her work examines portraiture as a site of perception and inner life, while her landscape-based paintings draw from flora, natural forms, and otherworldly environments in dialogue with the unconscious.
Across both modes, Zoe Rose communes with color, light, and a personal mythos to construct visual spaces that prioritize atmosphere and emotional resonance over narrative. Whether focused on the figure or the environment, her paintings invite contemplation and subjective interpretation.
Through luminous color, layered surfaces, and fluid mark-making, Zoe Rose imbues her paintings with a sense of vitality and presence—treating both figure and environment as animated by spirit. Rooted in a contemplative, process-driven approach, she approaches painting as an act of improvisation, allowing images to emerge through embodied listening rather than fixed design.
Zoe Rose currently lives and works in Kauai, HI.
